Cookie Policy
Last updated: 20 September 2026
This page explains what cookies are, which ones sprucednest.com uses, and how to control them. It sits alongside our privacy policy, which covers everything else we collect.
What cookies are
A cookie is a small text file that a website asks your browser to store on your device. It lets the site recognise your browser on a later visit, remember a setting, or measure how the site is being used.
Some cookies are set by this site directly. Others are set by third parties whose services appear on our pages, such as advertising and analytics providers.
Cookies used on this site
Strictly necessary
These keep the site working and cannot be switched off. They include the cookie that records your cookie preferences, and the WordPress cookies that let you leave a comment or stay signed in if you have an account here.
| Cookie | Purpose | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|
| Cookie consent | Remembers the choices you made on the consent banner | 6 to 12 months |
| comment_author_* | Remembers your name, email and website so you do not retype them | 1 year, only if you opt in |
| wordpress_* | Keeps you signed in, if you have an account on the site | Session or 14 days |
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to see which articles are read, how long people stay and what devices they use. This is reported to us in aggregate and is not used to identify individual readers.
| Cookie | Purpose | Typical duration |
|---|---|---|
| _ga | Distinguishes one browser from another | 2 years |
| _ga_* | Maintains the analytics session state | 2 years |
Advertising
Advertising keeps this site free to read. Google and its partners use cookies to serve ads, to limit how many times you see the same advertisement, and to measure whether ads are working.
Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this site or other sites. You can opt out of personalised advertising in Google Ads Settings.
| Set by | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Google AdSense | Serving ads, frequency capping, click measurement |
| DoubleClick / Google Ad Manager | Ad delivery and reporting |
| Google advertising partners | Ad selection and measurement, which varies by advertiser |
Because the set of partners bidding on advertising space changes, we cannot list every advertising cookie individually. Google publishes the current list of its partners and what they do at policies.google.com/technologies/partner-sites.
Embedded content
If an article embeds a video or another third-party element, that provider may set its own cookies when the content loads. Those cookies are governed by the provider’s own policy, not ours.
How to control cookies
On this site. Where a consent banner is shown, you can accept or reject non-essential cookies, and change that choice later through the cookie settings link in the footer.
In your browser. Every major browser lets you block or delete cookies, usually under Settings, then Privacy. Blocking all cookies will break parts of most websites, including this one.
Industry opt-outs.
- Google Ads Settings — turn off personalised ads from Google
- aboutads.info/choices — US-based opt-out for participating vendors
- youronlinechoices.eu — European equivalent
- Google Analytics opt-out add-on — stops Analytics across all sites
Opting out of personalised advertising does not remove advertising. You will still see ads, but they will be less relevant to you.
Changes to this policy
We will update this page if the cookies we use change. The date at the top shows when it was last revised.
